FAQs

Find answers to your questions about Oasis Farm and our community initiatives.
  • Oasis Farm is dedicated to creating a sustainable, environmentally responsible space that addresses food insecurity while promoting community engagement and education. We integrate urban farming and natural medicines to inspire healthier lifestyles and foster a deeper connection to the environment.

  • Our bioshelter is a Passive Solar Greenhouse that combines innovative systems like solar energy and rainwater collection. It operates as a closed-loop ecosystem, growing fresh, local produce while educating the community about renewable practices and sustainable agriculture.

  • The market garden features nine raised beds filled with nutrient-rich produce such as fruits, vegetables, and herbs. These crops are grown sustainably and supported by a hoop house, which extends the growing season by providing a warm humid environment for seedlings and young plants in the early spring months.

  • Through its volunteer program, the farm provides fresh, healthy produce to food-insecure community members while offering hands-on opportunities to learn about urban farming, natural medicine, and sustainable living. It also collaborates with local organizations to ensure produce reaches residents living on fixed or low incomes through a weekly farm stand. The collaborations include weekly farm stands in the neighborhood and an affordable weekly Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) subscription

  • Oasis Farm serves as a living classroom, offering workshops, tours, and volunteer experiences. Visitors can learn about urban agriculture, soil health, natural
remedies, and regenerative farming practices, making it a hub for environmental education and community empowerment.

  • Oasis Farm is an educational initiative of The Oasis Project, the community outreach and economic development division of Bible Center Church in Pittsburgh. Farm operations and education initiatives are supported primarily through foundation and government grants and generous donors. Market garden activities provide a modest earned income stream that support community engagement events.

Dedicated volunteers are an essential component of farm operations. During the growing and harvest seasons, hundreds of people volunteer for a few hours or all season long.

Oasis Farm deeply values partnerships that align with our mission to combat food insecurity and promote regenerative farming practices. Together, we ensure our efforts are impactful and a part of the broader regional initiatives.
